Is this a problem?

And it has brown and black spots on it.

Is this just part of it, or is something wrong?

  2. My cat doesn't have a 3rd eyelid I would take him/her to the vet just in case.

  3. How can you be so sure its an eyelid. It can be a birth mark.

And if it just appeared then you go to a vet maybe your cat

    has some kind of infection.

  4. i didnt know cats had 3 eyelids

  5. I can't believe so many people don't know it's called the third eyelid-duh! it doesn't usually show in healthy cats so is probably a sign something is wrong-if it's just one eye then sounds like it could be an injury. I would phone the vet and see if they think she needs to go

  6. seriously cool wow i dont know wat 2 say

  7. I'm thinking you mean the 2nd clear lid that you can often see when your cat is resting or beginning to rest. I have never seen obvious spots on one but I would just call the vet and the tech could probably tell you over the phone if that is normal so you don't spend a lot of money on a visit to the vet's office.

  8. Nena is correct; I would educate yourself on your pet, as they normally try to hide when they're sick.

Get it to a vet to get checked out.

  9. im a vet, and this is common among cats, u need to take it to a vet

  10. You should probably get that checked out.

It could mean that he is going blind.

  11. most likely. i hear that when you can see it, it may mean he's a little ill

  12. The third eyelid is an extra protection that is not normally visible in a  healthy animal, but which may come across the eye if a cat is sick. Signs of problems to watch out for  are discharge or watering, closure of the eye, If these eyelids are visible it can be a sign that a cat is out of condition or is suffering from diarrhea or worms.

Exposure of the third eyelid on one side only may be due to an injury, fight wound, or object in the eye

    Consult a vet.

  13. CATS DO HVAVE A THIRD  EYELID BUT NORMALY YOU CANNOT SEE IT UNLESS THEY ARE ASLEEP  SOMETIMES..IF YOU CAN SEE IT...THEN YOU ....SHOULD TAKE IT TO THE  VET.......IT MAY HAVE INFECTION IN HIS EYE  AND THE  BROWN OR BLACK SPOTS YOU ARE SEEING  MAY BE  DRYED  BLOOD..........THE BEST AND ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS A TRIP TO THE    VET AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO IT CAN GET CHECKED BY A DR.  AND ONLY HE CAN BE ABLE TO TELLYOU THE PROBLEM... MOST LIKELY YOUR CAT MIGHT NEED  ANTIBOTICS TO CLEAR THE EYE UP......THE EXTRA EYE LID  MAY BE STUCK IN THAT POSITION   FROM  INFECTION  RIGHT NOW TRY  PUTTING SOME WARM  WATER ON IT  AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS AND ........SEE  VET  CHECK..............THAT DEFINATLY  IS NOT NORMAL...........I HOPE AND PRAY THAT ALL WORKS OUT FOR YOUR BABY    AND  GOOD  LUCK  AND GOD  BLESS..............

  14. if your cat has 3 eyelids then you have a problem

  15. Glad you noticed. Usually when the third eyelid shows itself it means the cat isn't feeling well. It's an instant, easily visible sign of illness.

Whether that illness is a minor cold or a more serious illness such as diabetes or kidney failure is for your vet to diagnose. Time for an appointment.

  16. Three eyelids? yes something's horribly wrong.

  17. he has a third eye??? wtf

  18. haha.  That's funny.  Are you looking at Mr. snuggles's Mr. one-eye again?!

  19. Hi there,

The technical name for the third eyelid is nictitating membrane. Most of the time this membrane is hidden, but at times, will raise. Sometimes when cats are about to go to sleep, or are drowsy or blissed out with happiness, the membrane will slowly raise up.

If this is happening much of the time, it can also be a symptom of illness. It is not usual for the third eye to have black spots on it, so I recommend highly that your cat be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible to rule out any illness.

  21. My cats third eyelid is showing at the moment, as she has just had an operation. Usually, when the third eyelid is showing, it means that there might be an infection in the eye. I would take the cat to the vets, if i was you, and get it checked out
