I can smell a gas leak.

Question

I have a shop and in the double door entry, there is our gas meter. We don't use gas in this property and haven't done so for some years now. Apparently its been cut off. I have checked to see if the valve is open for any chance but its in the closed position.

I would like to know if there is a number someone can tell me that I would call and ask to get it checked by someone and they wouldn't charge me? I am located in Birmingham in West Midlands.

If you smell gas call 911 from a cell phone outside of that space do not do anything than could cause a spark! Leave untill the all clear!!!!

Call the emergancy number in the telephone book under Gas. You could still have a leak further down the pipe and the smell drifting in especially if it's old pipework.

Well, you may want to turn off your computer and go somewhere else and call your emergency number.  911 or the emergency number for the gas company.

0800111999 Transco will come and test the meter for a leak.

P.S Transco DO NOT charge I have called them before and they have never charged me even when they found no leak.

Ring British Gas, they do not charge you for reporting the smell of gas!

your local emergency number might be a good place to start before you blow up the entire block, or you can always call the gas company, the number should be in the book!
