My wing chun instructor is really great and has always been flexible, just because of flu bug I had to cancel today's lesson. He has always asked for as much notice if a student has to cancel because he would like to offer the slot to some other student because he teaches schools but in the evenings and weekends trains 1-2-1. He has now sent us a email saying he understands students have to cancel sometimes, but if less than 24 hours notice is given he feels it is okay to charge for the lesson anyway. Is this fair? He charges what he calls 'affordable regular personal training' and this ranges from £7.50 per hour to £15 per hour after 12 sessions and I have to say my ability has just flown with him. But I guess he is a little racked off because this is the second time I have done this to him in 3 weeks, and sometimes his other students let him down too. I know he teaches as a business but he takes a real pride in his instruction too. So should I just pay it anyway?

  1. Big Lie!!!!!! LIAR!!!!

  2. Of course you should! The man is a trained pro and has just lost the opportunity to make some money.

  3. remember, he's running a business and needs to get apid for his time

  4. no

  5. Of course you should pay. Like you said, he's not a charity, he's running a business.

Now, it was probably difficult for him to say that because no teacher wants to lose talented students, but then again if he can't afford to support himself and his family, why should he do it. Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth.

P.S. Feel free to email me with some details. I'm always interested in discussing different martial arts forms and Wing Chun sounds interesting.
