Question:

I cannot calibrate the tint setting on my hdtv with the Avia dvd! WHY?

I can adjust the contrast, brightness, sharpness and color. But when it comes to tint, I can't. When I calibrated my neighbor's projection tv, it was the same thing too!

Even more bizarre, when no calibration dvd is in the component-plugged player, like a movie, the tint setting becomes available to adjust with!!!

I tried to calibrate with the hdmi-connected player, no success, still no tint setting available.

So, with no Avia in the player, should I leave the "touchable" tint in the middle when it happens, and will that s***w the color since they affect each other?

I never had that problem when it comes to adjust old-school tube tvs.

I'm going crazy! HELP! Best answer waiting for you!

  2. You must have Component or HDMI connection between your DVD and TV.

If you using HDMI or Component video input for your TV, there is no Hue (a.k.a. Tint) adjustment.  Some TV's (just like yours) disable it because it wouldn't do anything.

On an older set, or your set with S-Video or composite video input, the color and luminence are not completely separate signals.  With S-Video, there are two signals (color and luminence).  With composite, there is one signal and the color needs to be extracted.  The Hue (a.k.a. Tint) control, adjusts the "phase" of the color signal.

Basically, for HDTV on HDMI or Component (three signal input) you don't need Tint.

    Enjoy.
