I have a (10 yrs old - and not used for 3 years) Sony 29" TV, which seems perfectly fine, except that I cannot seem to tune the TV channels either manually or automatically. The TV works perfectly as a monitor for my DVD player.
But I cannot seem to receive any of the free to air channels that I used to be able to get. (In Australia at this stage we have 5 free to air channels broadcasting in Analog UHF/VHF - though I think we go fully digital in 2010).
I have connected an old rabbit ears antenna (which works on my other smaller TV, so that seems OK). But no real signal shows up on the larger screen - just a vague black and white signal from only one station.
I am at a complete loss to understand why this is loss of signal is happening. All I have been able to come up with is that I suspect that the removalists who took the TV out of storage may have slightly knocked the aerial (coaxial?) input slightly, as it no longer seems exactly perpendicular to the set. The connection is not mangled or anything, just slightly off centre.
Could that cause this problem? Could some wiring internal to the aerial plug have been dislodged, and therefore the signal is not getting to the automatic tuner?
