I cannot get my Desktop and Laptop to recognize each others shared components Help!?

I am running on both computers XP I have established both wired and wireless connections on both computers to the internet and can surf the web and they are both on the same work-group but neither of the computers are recognized in my network places. Nor can you see and shared documents or printers and I also have file and printer sharing enabled on both computers. Any help would be HOT!

turn off windows firewall. un der control panel
