I cannot get my boat to go in drive?

it will die when i try to stick in drive or reverse please help . i cant disengage the trnsmission and i can get it to acclerate bu not when i engage the transmission

Boat motors do no have transmissions.

What type of motor is it?  IO  inboard or outboard.  You could have something holding the prop or a trans problem.

have you checked to see if there is anything fowling the propeller such as fishing line, you will have to take it off to check properly

take care you replace the washer and split pin correctly

If you are talking about and I/O there is a switch that disables the engine for a fraction of a second when you put it in drive (we also say putting it in gear) Have a marine mechanic check to see that switch is not malfunctioning.
