I cannot get the internet on my laptop!! ntl modem problem?

I have plugged a netgear router into my ntl modem using a LAN cable...the ntl modem is is connected to the PC via USB (PC can connect fine to the net). My laptop in the other room can connect to the router but i cannot get the internet!! Help pleeeease!!!!!

Your setup won't work connected with the modem connected via USB and Lan cable

You will need to disconnect your PC  from the ntl modem and connect it to the netgear router via one of the 4 ethernet ports with an ethernet cable

You should then be able to connect to the internet as long as you have set up the wireless encryption corrected on the laptop
