I cannot invite people to the group as i am a member I do not see the invite button ! how 2 become a moderator

the invite feature is for owners and moderators. to become a moderator, you need to e-mail the owner of that group. only an owner or another moderator with that priviledge can appoint another moderator

or simply give the owner the addresses you want to invite

You could send your friends the URL with an explanation about the group, asking them to join.  You could also email the owner asking if he/she would make you a moderator..
