  1. Try to cut back on the caffeine and sugar several hours before bed, also start getting up earlier in the morning so you will be more tired.  Exercise an hour or 2 before bed to help tire yourself out.  Reading can help also.  I will often play some sleepy music quietly also as I have a hard time sleeping in complete silence.

  2. Dont drink caffeine after 5 or something like that, give it time to work out of your system a bit.  Or cut it out all together.

When I was in college, I never slept.  Just couldnt put myself to sleep.  So at 9 I would take Tylenol PM (or some sleeping pill, non perscription) and then Id take a long hot shower to sort of relax and let the pills start to work.

Also, a really good idea, is make your bed for sleeping.  If you live in a dorm or with folks or something, this can be difficult, but if you can, dont do anything but sleep in bed.  Dont do homework there, dont watch tv there, dont do anything but sleep.  Because you actually train yourself to be awake and thinking if you use your bed for working and such.  As an interior designer, I always recomend no desk or anything in the bedroom.  Just the bedroom furniture.  Leave the tv and all that in another room and dont bring the school/office work to bed or youll never sleep.

The big thing is training yourself to go to bed.  Once you get on a steady schedule, youll feel better and wont have a problem.

  3. Valerian Root. You can buy it at Wal-Mart on the vitamin aisle.

  4. Whenever I need to get my body clock changed after a spell of late nights, I miss a day. That is, I miss a night's sleep, stay up all day without any naps.

By the time your proper sleep time comes around on the second day, believe me you'll sleep.

Next morning force yourself out of bed, you'll feel groggy, but your internal clock will have re set itself.

I know it sounds drastic, but it works every time
