I typed the IP address192.168.16.1 and the default gateway 192.168.16.1 into the explorer but it ends up bringing me to a search page.

This problem has lasted for a couple of months and I reinstalled my windows, restarted the router and nothing happened.

How could I sort this problem

Thank you

  1. it might not be your operating system maybe you just have spyware or viruses on your computer a good free anti spyware is spybot search and destroy if its not that theres maybe a problem with your registry and then you would need registry mechanic but try spybot first and see if it works after that because it is a common thing that spyware and viruses can cause this problem download link to spybot is below http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-De...

  2. Well some routers for security reasons use a port other than port 80, usually port 81 to communicate with the router. If the default gateway on your machine is 192.168.16.1 you would put in 192.168.16.1:81 to get to the router. You might try power cycling the router, and if all else fails do a reset on the router by holding in the reset button while plugging in the power.  Then go into the router by the method specified in the manual (download first before resetting the router!) Unless you reconfigured the router 192.168.16.x is a bit unusual, More commonly they come as 192.168.0.X or 192.168.1.X and some like to make themselves .254 instead of .1

  3. Are you sure that 192.168.16.1 is the routers address, it may have been reset, most router in the 192.168 range have a default address of 192.168.1.1.

Check the IP setting on your network connection and verify that that is indeed the IP address of the router.

Internet would still work as 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.16.1 are on the same net, so if your IP setting is to obtain the address automatically then you would still have access even of the router was reset.

  4. How bout trying 192.168.1.1

OR better yet, go to your command prompt & type ipconfig /all

There it should tell you exactly what your default gateway's (router) IP address is.

  5. Try putting another computer on your network...

I had this problem a while ago, turned out to be ip address / subnet mask settings...

But my other computer got to it fine...
