I cannot play MPGE-4 or MP4 videos on my DELL??

Question

i have a DELL desktop since 3 to 4 years ago, but i did not know that i couldnt play MPGE-4 or MP4 videos..i have download a lot of codecs but none of them have work.what can i do??

Use Quicktime or VLC Player to play your mp4 videos. I don't think the problem is related to your DELL desktop.

Download some mp4 videos at http://www.mp4point.com/ and see if they work - make sure to use Quicktime or VLC Player as some media player does not support MP4 playback.

have you tried Combined Community Codec Pack? i got that for mine and now i can play any video file that i try.

Download the K-Lite Codec Pack, comes with FFShow, AC3, and everything imaginable.

I presume that you are using Windows Media Player?

Right click on the top toolbar of WMP then select 'Help' then 'About Windows Media Player'.

From the box that open click on 'Technical Support Information'.

That window will show you all the codecs that are installed in the player.

Now I am pretty sure that I had to install this filter to make mpeg4 work:

MPEG/DVD Filters

video ffdshow Video Decoder ffdshow.ax 1.0.5.1928

The other codecs that I have that relate to MP4 are the last 7 in the Video Codes Listing

use VLC player. It plays many video files.
