What is the proper grammar:

1) I cannot tell you what is love.

2) I cannot tell you what love is.

  1. Both are perfectly correct grammar.

    It's really a matter of choice and context. Do not rely on Microsoft Word's grammar check function. That tries to make everything plain vanilla, and shows as incorrect any construction that is anywhere beyond the sixth grade level, even though it is correct. Also, do not rely on an answer that is grammatically incorrect in itself, such as 'best' for a choice between two.


  2. The second is correct.

    Type both sentences into Microsoft Word, and the first comes up with the squiggly green line, indicating a grammatical error.

  3. As per proper grammar, the second sentence is correct when followed by a question mark. Otherwise both are incorrect.

  4. Althought the first is technically correct, the second sounds much more natural, and is how English speakers would say it.
