  1. You had given a model number for your "home cinema" in an earlier question. I looked into the specs and it is limited to an RCA analog audio input so you can't connect the audio from the HD DVD player via HDMI.

An HDMI splitter won't help. It is used to feed HDMI to two inputs (but you don't have any). Use HDMI to connect the video to your HDTV for video (and audio from the TV speakers if you want)

You have to have an HDMI input on the home cinema and if you don't have that (or optical or digital coax) there is nowhere to plug in the digtal audio signal to get true surround sound.

The only option you have to utilize your main speakers is to connect the HD DVD player to the home cinema via a stereo analog cable and accept stereo (or matrix surround using the Prologic decoder to generate a pseudo surround).

    Sorry

  2. HDMI won't always give you the best picture and sound.  Click here to see why: http://www.avtruths.com/hdmi.html

Also, to get the most out of your HD-DVD player's "UNCOMPRESSED  DIGITAL AUDIO", you'll want to hook it up in a specific manner.  Click here to see how: http://www.avtruths.com/uncompressed.htm...
