  1. well if the laptop is wireless then it should eslablish a connection by it self and if it doens't then ask the company for tech support. thats all i can say online. i could do it better in person.

  2. you shlould call Internet company

  3. You have turned on the wireless havnt you? its a button or switch either along the top or on the side of the laptop, it looks like this: (symbol on the on/off switch and on the F2 button) it should be lit up if on

If you have switched on and still cannot connect and you have vista you will need to find out the workgroup name from one of the other computers on the network and change your workgroup name to match, you will also have to choose a computer name aswell if you havnt already so that it can be identified on the network.

right click on computer > properties > advanced settings > computer name tab > this is where you can change the computer name and workgroup

for xp - right click my computer > properties > network id

  4. no

  5. " which has wireless (i think) ".

Make sure that the laptop does have an inbuilt wireless modem, many don't.

  6. try turning the modem off

    for a minute

    and turn it back on

  7. You may need to log into your router and put your laptops mac address on the allow list.

  8. Make sure the router has the same mac address as the ISP.  Do a search on the brand of your router and you should be able to find a login for that.

  9. There are two key components to establishing a wireless connection:

    1. SSID - this is the access point name. Make sure that you are actually connecting to the correct access point. The router may have a bar code label on it that has this information.

    2. The Security passphrase/configuration. If the router is set to use WEP 64bit and you have entered a WEP 128bit you won't get a connection. If it is ASCII and you selected WEP, or WPA, you won't get a connection.

Your laptop needs to be configured to exactly the same as the router to make the connection. What I would suggest as a start point, do a "scan" for networks and make sure you're selecting the one you believe to be yours. Then, on connection, it should prompt you for the passphrase (this may also be on a label on the router) which is the security code. If your connection still fails at this point, your passphrase is wrong.

  10. connect to the signal then restart your laptop/the modem
