  1. I'm the same as you. I can't drink strong drinks but I like whiskey and cokes. If they are to strong I don't like them. In both the states I worked in it is illegal for a bartender to give you less than the standard "shot" in your glass. So I ask for a pint glass (usually a beer glass) with the standard shot of whiskey and filled the rest of the way with pop. It works well.

The best mixers for rum are not pops, though. For some reason rum just doesn't mix to well with pop. Unless you are having a Cuba libra.... that's rum (usually a spice rum like Captain Morgans) with a fill of coke or pepsi and two limes squeezed in. For other rum drinks I would stick to fruit juices mixed with cremes...... that will tame the rum taste down a lot.

  2. This, my friend, is why mankind invented mixed drinks.  If you find even in mixed drinks, the alcohol is too strong, use less alcohol.  There's nothing wrong with a coke with a splash a rum if that's what you like.

  3. That defeats the purpose. Stick with drinks you like...

  4. Juices often help. Pineapple juice works especially well. Mixing more than one juice will also help. Some lemon or lime juice will often also be useful in improving the taste.

  5. you can add rum to mixed drinks, for starters, rum & cola =)
