I cant figure out how to bypass my water softener

Question

i want to bypass my softener but i cant figure out how to do it. it's white and on the top are two black valve looking things that say bypass but i think its a slide one. i cant move it any way whatsoever it won't budge when i try to slide it. how do i do this!!!

Mine was hard to operate too. I turned off the water to my house and was able to move the valve to bypass very easily. It took the pressure off the valve and made it easier to move. .

it probably has froze in place like mine did,, how old is the unit?? that has allot to do with it, what i did is put a jumper piece of PECs on it with gator fittings and then when i got ambitious i refitted the ball valve to bypass the softener, it is hard to see if you are bypassing the softener because there is no visual window to look at the water flowing. hope this helps.
