Suppose a college student pays $700 for tuition fees. However, she also has to pay $375 for her textbooks (ouch!). What percent of her total education costs does she pay for her books?

    In case not, on the information given, Total is 700 + 375

    (in reality, her total education costs would include the cost of student accommodation, travel & food and so on, as well as the tuition fees = and often students will sell their books onto the next new year class, so the totals costs of the books may be less (if she buys & sells second hand)

    So Percentage of Total is 100 * 375 / (700+375) ...
