  1. I've never done this with a bmx but I think once it's all taken apart the principal is the same.

Using a block of wood to protect the top of the steerer, hit it sharply with a hammer.

Be very careful, some bearings may not be clipped in and you might end up with them all over the floor. Best to put a cloth down to stop them rolling away just in case.

If you have taken EVERYTHING off of the fork steerer than the fork should drop right out.

My guess is that the top race is still on it. Inside this race is a tapered split ring that goes between the steerer and the race. Hammering on the fork will just make it tighter. Instead, put the front wheel back on the fork and bounce the wheel onto the ground a couple of times. This should shake the spacer loose... just remove the spacer and the race, and the fork will slide right out.

  3. Its The Tapered Ring Just Down Inside The Top Head Set Cup Above The Bearings There's A Slit In It If You Wedge Something Small Enough To Fit Inside It And Prize It Upwards Personally I Use A Small Tapered Flat Headed Screwdriver Works Fine Then They Slide Out No Problem Hope This Is A Use.

  4. Hey Pac,

Ya, the fork should come off with a quick wack of a rawhide or rubber mallet.  Wack it really quick right on the top of the steerer tube.  The fork should come off.
