“I can’t hit it right with Khim Wah,” says Goh V Shem – Badminton Update
It seems Men’s Doubles expert Goh V Shem of Malaysia has decided to try his luck with a new partner as he clearly showed disappointment over his collaboration with compatriot shuttler Lim Khim Wah.
Both players have been playing together for more than a year and they hold the 24th spot in the World Ranking.
The duo has represented the country in many international events but unfortunately they are still struggling to find a respectable spot in the arena.
They grabbed attention by winning the 2010 Malaysia International Challenge but could not follow that success in the next two years.
Now, V Shem has expressed his dissatisfaction over their journey and stated that they have been failing to show consistency at the international level.
He also added that there is no hope of further elevation and it is right time to split the partnership and try to hit the mark individually.
He said, “There hasn’t been much improvement of late. We play well in one tournament and crash out in another. Our standard will stagnate if we stay together. I really don’t see us breaking into the top five.”
The Malaysian pair, who is National Number two after Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, had some impressive outings during first half of this season as they surpassed higher ranked Taipei team Fang Chieh Min-Lee Sheng Mu in Badminton Asia Championships.
They also proved their mettle by thrashing World Number eight Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano in the India Open Super Series.
They failed to gain access in the final rounds of all badminton events this year and this disturbs V Shem who thinks that he can take his game new heights after joining hands with some other shuttler.
However, he told that coaches will make final decision in the national coaching and training committee meeting, going to be held in second week of this month.
He said, “The matter has been preying on my mind and I really feel it will be for the better if Khim Wah and I are split. I can push myself further but I’m disappointed that I can’t hit it right with Khim Wah. But I leave it to the coaches to decide.”
There are possibilities that Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will field V Shem with Boon Heong whereas Khim Wah will be assisting Kien Keat in future tournaments.
