  1. A teacher I know recommends Ricci Adams' Musictheory.net

"Animated music theory lessons, with note and interval trainers, ear trainers, chord calculators, and more." www.musictheory.net

  2. A lot of "fiddle" players don't learn music, but follow the aural tradition.  But I'd learn to read music;  it opens the world up to you.

  3. Just start playing. There will come a point when you need to learn to read music to progress. At that point you'll decide how serious you are about violin and if you want to put in the effort to continue. In the meantime have fun.

  4. you need read music. get a basic book that has the note names on the note, and label the strings of the violin.
