Question:

I cant seem to get my new lawn to grow

I rototilled the ground,it was excellent dirt,i used fertilizer that Jerrys recommend,this is the second time it grows in patches then other spots nothing.I didnt roll the seed in but never had to before,I used sun & shade seed any suggestions ?

  1. The birds eat the seeds-that's why there are patches. Reseed the patches and cover the seed with some top dressing.


  2. Uneven watering could be another cause.  Don't redo it again.  Just fill the bare spots with Scotts Patch master.  As long as you keep it watered it will grow in.  It contains seed, starter fertilizer and an insulator that will keep all the seed from blowing away or getting eaten.  

  3. Tough time of year to start a lawn because of the heat and uneven watering is more likely than birds for spots. Wait until it cools next month and you'll have much better luck.  RScott
