Last years season i would normally hit three 3 pointers everygame, that was my average. But now i cant seem to hit them, i practice more than i did last year but i seem to be getting worse. In AAU, we just came home from nationals, and we did awesome, but we all have something to work on. Mines shooting, which it really shouldnt be. I am good in practice but not in games. Is it my confidence, am i not confident anymore? Or is something in my shot going wrong? Help, i need to make this team again.

  1. you should try tucking in your elbow

  2. I believe that it's your confidence.  If you have been shooting like you normally would......then it has to be your confidence.  When your about to shoot think to yourself....I'm gonna nail it.  That's what I do for all the sports I play.  Good Luck on making the team again!  I think you will as long as you try really hard and keep your confidence up.GOOD LUCK!!!

  3. I know the same thing happened to me...i practice like everyday and i get worse and worse... but what the guy said about physical and mental practice is true though

  4. mabe cause u suck and you need to take staroids

  5. Self-confidence is arguably one of the most important things you can have. Self-confidence reflects your assessment of your own self-worth. It will play a large part in determining your happiness through life.

Sport can be both enormously effective in improving self-worth, and highly destructive in damaging it. Where sport is used creatively, with emphasis on enjoyment, effective goal setting and monitoring of achievement of goals, it can build self-confidence as targets are reached and improvement in performance is noted.

Where children are compelled to participate in a sport for which they have no aptitude, this can be immensely destructive to self-confidence as failure and lack of self-worth are consistently reinforced. Coaches should ask themselves whether they are prepared to take moral responsibility for inflicting this damage, even if numbers are needed to make up a team.

Self-confidence allows you to take risks, as you have enough confidence in your own abilities to be sure that if things do go wrong, you can put things right.

    Levels of Confidence

  6. Practice makes perfect, as long as you are not thinking about it too hard.  You must be trying to hard, instead of letting it come naturally.  You must have talent - just let it come out without worrying about it so much.  Don't let the pressure get to you...relax and have fun - then you'll get back in the groove.

  7. sometimes if you take time so sit in silence with your eyes closed and visualize you making the shot it helps as much as physical practice

  8. use steroids

  9. Try every time.

  10. i kind of had the same thing. i was in a rec league all my life and i was always the star player and my dad was the coach. then i went on an aau team where all the girls were as good or better than me. i got intimidated by this and it reflected in my playing skills. I SUCKED!and also, all the girls were in their own little "clique" eccept me. i felt like such an outsider and my low confidence affected my skills.

maybe you are not confident with these girls?

  11. "I suggest getting on the playgrounds, and competing against the

bigger, stronger, faster, and better defensive, boys and men in a

    series of games of 'TWENTY-ONE'."

"This will allow you more practice in shooting 'twenty footers' OVER

taller players, more intense defense, and even double-teams."

"That's how I got my Long-distance shooting confidence up."

"The better the competition at practice, the better all-around basketball

player you will become, in a shorter amount of time."

  12. I play shooting guard for my college, and here's a few observations.

First, if you were a good shooter last year, and if you are playing any kind of organized ball, where the other team is scouting pre-game, then you've been marked. No coach wants someone draining threes on them, so they are going to mark you and you will be having less and less time to shoot, cause they are going to be coming at you.

So, practice game situations. Work on catching and shooting faster, at top speed. Also, work on moves to make space, i.e. fake then shoot, cross-over then shoot, etc... It takes time, a minimum of 200 made shots a day if you are at all serious.

About confidence, here's a little trick.

If you are feeling down, play with some folks who aren't so serious... like recreational players. If you've been in serious training, you should really shine, and it might help you realize how far you've come, from the average joe.

Good luck, keep perfecting your technique, and have fun. It's so much fun to see a big coming at you, leaping out to block your shot, and you drain the three right in their face. Relish those times, and relive them over and over and over. Remember, top performers forget their failures and relish and relive their sucesses.

    God bless

  13. Probably there was something special in your shot last time or maybe you're under pressure in games and not in practice. When you are in a game think as if  you are in practice, I know it's hard but really try.

  14. is there ppl watching the game?maybe that.

    you should do layups.

    but its normal.

  15. Your lack of confidence is getting the best of you. And that can be hard to get past because it's in your head. If you're staying physically fit and still practicing you need to get back in the mental zone. Once you get there your confidence will come back. Hit a few 3 pointers in a row and you'll be back in the groove. Try not to dwell on it.
