I was born and surrounded with native english people although for some reason no one can understand me (sometimes) they always say what?, Sorry can you repeat that etc. I realise that my voice is deep although i tend to stumble my words up when talking at a normal fluent pace. When i read aloud people can understand, but when it comes to converstation ..................

Is there something wrong with me? I mean im i pretty smart kid (coming at least in the top 20 of the school out of 300). What can i do to treat this? Without going to a docotr or something. Ih Btw. Im 16 and a male

  1. My best friend is male and has a very low voice. I can't tell you how many times I have had him repeat things. It can p**s him off too. But he is understandable.

Now...conversations, difficult to hear? Sounds like shyness too.

Maybe you should consider working on your self confidence. It will help.

My suggestion for a highschool student? Toast Masters...really.

    See this site:

I know it doesn't sound like it would work. But it does. Shy people and quiet people in particular benefit. You will thank yourself profusely later.

Also...it is in your town. Just look it up.

    Don't worry you are NORMAL

  2. Unless you've had an injury or illness that's affecting it, a doctor wouldn't be able to help. Most likely it's an educational problem, not saying you're stupid, on the contrary, a lot of people who have educational speech problems are generally better at maths and sciences. If there's a guidance teacher or a teacher you trust, speak to them and find out if they can arrange for a speech therapist.

  3. Are you in a new country eg: went to Australia coming from England, cause i had a freind like that. Its because his english accent was new to us and we couldn't understand what he was saying. Now after 2 years his accent has gone and we understand each other brilliantly, just wait your accent will change and people will understand you:D

  4. I don't think so other than like speech exercises or something. I've heard that smart people studder/ mess up words when they talk because they think too much for their mouth too keep up.

    I hope that I helped you (:

  5. You're obviously in a period of life when nobody can understand what you're saying. It's called adolescence.
