I have a 1996 2 door GMC Yukon ,350 VORTEC, 4X4.

When i start the truck it shuts off when i put it in drive, and when it shuts off we must put gas in the top of the motor to re start it, when we restart it maybe after 2 trys the motor chokes than starts to run again. What should i do, i wanna take it to the shop but i dont wanna pay 600 to 700 dollars.

  1. sounds like your fuel pump is out (or at least going out)... that's happened to me 4 times in the past and i've learned the signs.

Future advice: use starting fluid instead of gas because it does not wear away the seals as bad as just pouring gas inside

  2. You might have a faulty fuel pump or clogged fuel lines.  Fuel pump is $800 out here at GM dealers in California.  Fuel lines are harder to diagnose and can't give you a price range.  Sounds like my problem with 99 Tahoe.  Had to replace fuel pump - but under extended warranty.  Dealer claimed I saved $800.
