Im 18 years old and just graduated high school. I was going to join the Marines but sorta changed my mind because i cant swim. I feel like this is something i need to do in my life and i shouldnt let this stop me but i hate the water. I also heard the swim test is hard and never really had anyone really get in a pool with me and teach me. Im a good runner and my lungs are good so everyone in my family says i should have no problem swimming. Anyone have any suggestions??? Where can i learn to swim and should i join the marines not knowing or learn first. I have everything it takes to be a Marine i know it im crazy, love to workout, love working with a team and most of all never quit. AHHH I HATE SWIMMING

  1. Be a Navy Seal.  Learn to stretch for swimming. There are many books on stretching for endurance swimming that are geared for swimmers. Don't stop swimming until you can go a mile and do that every day for a month or twice a day or more until you are extremely confidant

  2. just take a class at the YMCA or have one of ur relatives teach you. it really isnt that difficult.

  3. go to the Y or rec center and take lessons.

  4. Go to your local gym (with a pool of course) or a YMCA, and get some lessons. Here's a secret: part of the swimming test for the marines is being able to swim 50 yards underwater without a breath.(Thats down and back in a yard pool. I can only do 30 yards underwater and I'm a captain of a swim team.). You may need advanced swim lessons if your going out for the marines though. Good Luck.

  5. Have you tried your local YMCA?  The one in my town had swimming lessons.

Good luck joining the Marines.  Sempre Fi!
