I captured video from my VCR to my computers TVtuner, can I compress it more and maintain quality?

Can I compress this video more and maintain the same quality? Or is this as good as it gets?

I used this tuner card

and WinTV software.. I think it compressed it to MPEG2, how do I know for sure?

To give and idea of what it compressed to originally.. I captured 7 hrs of VHS tape and it was 21.1 GB.

All compression leaves out data.  You will loose quality.  You'd be suprised how much you even lose on purchased MP3s.  Will you notice?  It really just depends.  you can look for other software. Some are better than others.
