  1. I have a cold right now and I swim Monday_Friday for 2 hours and it hasn't bothered me. It actually helped. I think that being active gets it our of your system MUCH faster than just sitting around. Get well soon.

  2. Generally a head cold will just be uncomfortable to swim with (especially on flip-turns). If you can find one, take a non-drowsy decongestant to help with the symptoms. However, it should clear up in a few days.

On the other hand, if you are running a fever over 100, have a chest cough that doesn't lessen after a few days, or can't keep any food or liquids down, you should see your doctor. You may have an infection of some kind. Swimming could make it worse.

I'm not a doctor, but those are the guidelines I've followed as a swimmer.

  3. Just sit it out and wait.Colds don't last that long.I just had a cold last week and now it's gone.

  4. You can still swim, but I'd use discretion.  If you swim, you  might want to take it a little easier than normal (i.e., your goal is simply to keep your muscles in the swimming pattern, not to work yourself to the max to push improvement, while you have a cold)

Also, if you swim with a cold, teammates are probably going to get sick.  That is an important consideration.  If your team has a big meet coming up, talk to your coach--get some advise.

Right now--it is August.  Unless you are in a major competition ending the season here--it is generally the swimming "off-season."  Take a few days and get better.  If you have no big meets coming up, missing a day or two will not hurt you.  If you must swim, maybe find a place to lap swim, so you keep the feel of the water, without risking your teammates health.

  5. Go to practice anyways because the water helps open up your sinus and lungs so ull feel better. If u do end up feeling a bit bad then get out or rest a bit at the wall thats what I do. I have ashtma and when I get sick i still go cause it helps open me up. hope this helps and get well soon :)

  6. swim through it if you are that devoted to it i swam with three different sicknesses last winter with one being a cold another the flu/ strep throat and also through a sinus infection it causes major headaches after practice but the time out of the pool is worse your muscles get a little out of shape if you must get out keep up with dry land daily its the toughest part of swimming but if your team or program doesnt have it try to get one started
