Can someone explain how the rouge scoring play occurs? I got curious when I saw a score of 3-1 in a football game and I looked up the CFL's scoring system. I read about the "rouge", scoring a single point but I could really figure out what the h**l it meant and how it was different form a safety. I never saw this type of play happen during the game, I was only watching in passing. It looked like it happened twice in the game that was on, is this a common scoring play? Please explain this.

  1. In the CFL, if you miss a field goal, you are still awarded a single point. Call it socialism, but the "rouge," as it is known, has decided more than a few games over the years. A punt that lands in the end zone or goes through it or is downed by a returner is also rewarded with a single point. The ball is then placed as you stated, at the receiving team's 35 yard line.

In the NFL if you miss a field goad, you hope your phone number and address are unlisted.

  2. Yes, if they punt the ball into the enzone and the punt returner doesn't run it out of the enzone it's 1 point for the other team.

***Re: No because they still have safetys in the CFL, if the QB gets sacked in the enzone it's still 2 pts

*****Re:Re: Yep so if it's a tie game they kick it intentionally into the enzone, if they're close enough, like on the 35 or 40 yard line.... LOL

"In Canadian football, the opposing team must return the missed field goal. If they do not, or if the missed field goal goes through the end zone, then the kicking team scores a single point. This may occasionally lead to situations at the end of a close game where the team on defense stations a player behind the goal posts to kick the ball out of the end zone in case of a missed field-goal attempt to preserve a victory or tie."

    Yeah it's pretty crazy.
