I caught blue fish and would like some cooking suggestions...

I went out on a charter boat, and ended up cathing 3 blue fish, that each way about 3-4 lbs a peice.

I've already cleaned them, scaled them, and froze them.

Eventually I'd like to cook them, but as I've never made bluefish before, I'm not sure which method would be the best tasting one?

Fried? Grilled? Broiled?

Any suggestions or recipies you would like to share? Thank you in advance!

  1. ok easy and AMAZINGLY tasty.

broil some of the filets with some slices of lemon layed over the top of it, and some nice capers.

Try some other filets  with breadcrumbs on top, a sprinkle of old bay seasoning, and some slices of tomatoes on top.  the tomatoes cook up  so nicely.

So, grilled is tough too keep the fish together unless you use a fish basket grilling thing.... but grilled with some lemon juice and olive oil is good too.

The thing about bluefish is that they are SO easy and so mild that anything you have in the house goes with it.

  2. This is how I make my blue fish

    BLUE FISH OREGANOTTO

1 or 2 blue fish (filleted)

    1/2 c. seasoned bread crumbs

    2 tbsp. butter, softened

    Salt and pepper to taste

2 or 3 cloves crushed garlic to taste

Juice from 1 or 2 lemons

    2 tsp. Mazola oil

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a shallow roasting pan (cover bottom with a little water) place blue fish fillets. Spread butter over top of fish, then season with salt, pepper and crushed garlic to taste. Add bread crumbs by sprinkling over top of fish (as much as you wish). Next, squeeze lemon juice over fish. Then drizzle oil over top of fish. Bake 20 to 25 minutes (fish should flake). May brown bread crumbs under broiler for a few minutes at end.

  3. Fried bluefish is excellent - bread them using buttermilk and cornmeal, instead of regular breadcrumbs.  You can add some paprika or cayenne pepper to the cornmeal to make it spicier.  Delicious!
