I caught clams few days ago. I soaked them in water, why won't they open at all to remove the sand themslf?

  1. Does Kelly mean to make sure you put them in saltwater and not in freshwater?  If they are saltwater clams, soak them in ocean water, of course---fresh water would probably kill them.  Or make water of ocean saltiness by mixing 1/3c salt per gallon of water.

    But why are they not letting out the sand?  I don't know, but we used to put the clams in a bucket of sea water and cornmeal.  The clams  replace the sand with corn.  If there's nothing in the bucket, maybe they have nothing to replace the sand with.  Just a thought.


  2. They don't do this, ever heard of sucking clams? You use a special knife to open them. I have heard putting salt in water to open but don't know if it works or not. All I ever seen is you open them yourself.
