In an attempt to change my IP to evade a ban from a San Andreas Multiplayer server, i changed my local IP from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1, i can connect to the internet, and my IP is the same

but we put a password on our router to be sure nobody can access our internet, now when i type 192.168.2.1 into my browser and it asks me for the password, i typed it as i did when my local IP was 192.168.1.1, but now it wont accept my password..

i dont know what to do as i cant access my router settings

anybody know how i can fix this?

  1. you should have accepted the ban, now u hav no interwebz!

  2. First of all, changing your local IP doesn't change your Internet IP which is assigned to you by your ISP.  So, the San Andreas server will still ban you no matter what local IP you use.

As for logging into your router, just make sure your caps lock isn't set, and type carefully.

As a last resort, you should be able to set your router back to factory defaults (look in the router manual) and start over.  Don't forget to set your PC's IP address back to the default network for the router.

  3. You can never change your IP address. It is assigned to you by your ISP. You can assign the IP addresses your router creates to share that connection but it is not recommended. No matter what changes you make you are still connecting with the IP assigned to you. A 192.168.*.* IP Address is a generic router IP Address that only your router uses. My router uses the same 192.168.1.1 address, almost all do.

To simplify, your ISP assigns an IP Address, that address gets assigned to the first thing connected to it. In this case the first thing connected in the chain is the router so the router gets that IP. That router then uses a set of generic IP Addresses to communicate with the computers connected to it. It's host IP address is the default 192.168.1.1 that you changed. Most routers can be changed back to their factory settings by pressing the reset button on the back. It's real small and you will need to push it in with something like a pen. Then all you need to do is go online to the site for your routers manufacture and see what they use as the default admin user id and password.

Beyond this accept your ban as you obviously did something you were not supposed to it's a welcome sight when rule breakers and hackers are banned for their actions.

  4. Find a little button on the router that says reset.  You will have to use something small to push it.  That will reset the router to factory settings so you can access it again and redo everything you needed to do.
