  1. What kind of cable(s) did you use to connect the DVD player to the television?

If you used HDMI, then that one cable will carry both video and audio signals.  (Usually found only on upconverting and BluRay dvd players)

If you used a coax cable (like the one coming out of your wall), then you should be getting both sound and picture.

The following only carry video signals:

Component connection cables (red, green, blue)

Composite connection cable (one cable-usually yellow)

        4-pin S-Video cable

DVI cable (in older HD TV sets)

If you used any of these, you will also need to get the audio signal to your set with either analog stereo cables (red and white) or digital coax, if your equipment is so equipped.

  2. Obviously you have no audio connections...so look for the RED/WHITE "aud out" connectors on your DVD and connect them to the RED /White connectors that are located nearby where your Video cable is connected....

Sometimes the manufacturer will move the Audio inputs around and place them in ODD shapes....

RCA and Magnavox/Philips get soooo Super-GOOFY with their connections that some will be in  a straight line, some in L-shaped patterns and others in squares....

So you end up having to READ the back panel just to find where all the Video 1 , 2, and 3 connectors are actually at...

and it gets WORSE with their plasma TV sets.

Most likely, that's what has happened to you.....
