I constantly see ways companies can increase their income. How can I make an income from my ideas?

I especially have good ideas around marketing, new product design, ideas for television shows and movies and lots of other things. A lot of times I see my ideas come into being years after I've thought of them. I thought of the survivor type reality television shows about seven years before they started. Granted, I think they suck, but I thought of them. My whole life has been like this, its like I often know where the culture is going. How can I use this to support myself?

  1. Hi,

Great post.  It's not easy to open a small business.  Most small business fail (statistically).  I lost a lot of money trying to open a website.

I was really down about losing my money when a friend introduced me to a really cool way to get started on the web.  There's a company that matches companies selling products with people that want to promote the products (the name of the company is Keep Clicking).  I joined for free (actualy, they paid me $10, but I didn't get that until I had $50 in my account which took me about a month).

Most of the products I promote are free trial offers (it's kind of like magazines where the person can try a month free).  The products usually ship for $4, and I get about $17!  So I have no inventory, and I made over $1,200 last month.

Anyway, it's the best way to make money that I've seen, and it's free.

    Best of luck to you!

  2. I will assume you don't have any formal business training.

    Don't let that stop you.

Today's world is a complicated place, credentials are nice on a resume but what it really comes down to is how good you can back up what you believe. They say ideas are a dime a dozen. The trick is to be able to back up and implement the ideas.

One of the most obvious avenues open to you would be to start up or work for a consulting business. Consultants are people with rare insights, able to simplify a problem and then present an action plan to reach a desired goal.

Next stop would be to go the advertising agency way. Recently many ad agencies are looking for people from various walks of life so that they can provide their unique insight to their clients problems.

Now for TV you wouldn't be thought the worse of if you were to submit a resume to a TV production company.

Bottom line is if you go to work for someone else be prepared to start at the bottom and work your way up by showing the people you work for that you have the idea and the means to pull it off.

If you go the route of self employed, be prepared to stick to your guns and ready to show your clients results.

Like I said in the begining, Ideas are a dime a dozen. Sadly its not always the best answer that wins out. Its often the one that get "sold" better or are the "safest". No one is going to go out on a limb on a hunch

The reason that I mentioned a formal business education is because it would teach you what clients are used to hearing and what matters to their bottom line. That can be solved with night school or correspondance courses.

One last final way to turn your ideas into profit. Actually come up with something completly new and manufacture/sell/trade etc.

Take control of your future and just do it.
