i constructed a simple hygrometer and used it to record weather changes around my home. one day i noticed that the pointer moved from 1degrees to 7degrees. what conclusion do you think i made?

  1. Without telling us how your hygrometer is built, it is difficult to say what the difference in angle means. Either that the humidity has increased or decreased, depending on how you built it.

    In any case, you should calibrate your hygrometer. Take it outside in a foggy day and write that as 100% humitidy. On a hot sunny day, it could be as low as 40%.

    What do you want to use your hygrometer to? In most cases, it is enough to know if it has increased or decreased without really wanting to know that value in percent.

    Be aware that humidity can be measured both relative and absolute. For example, at 15 degrees Celsius, one cubic meter of air cannot contain more than 14 grams of water. The relative humidity is then 100%. But at a lower temperature, it can take less water. Say, at 5 degrees Celsius, there might be only room for 4 grams water per cubic meter. But the saturation is still 100% and your hygrometer should show that.

    The reason colder air can contain less humidity is the reason clouds are born.
