Question:

I converted and have some questions?

I converted not too long ago and have some questions and I was wondering if someone could help me out.

1. When I read salat I sometimes forget where I am, or what rakat I am on (because I read it off a sheet because I haven't memorized it yet) so I just try to keep going. Is there anything proper I should do?

2. Ramadan is coming up and what about when its time to pray and I wuzu and water goes in my mouth?

I know I have more questions but I can't really think of them now. Thank you so much for helping, Salaam.

  1. Islam is not a religion that you can convert to for 3 months, and then decide that there is a trendier religion you can try. If you are serious about converting to Islam, research it as much as possible, learn everything about it, including about Ramadan, and then make your decision. It seems like you don't really know what you're doing.

  2. 1) Alhamdolillahe ,

doesnt matter if you forget what rakah is it,,Allah is Most Merciful, if you think it was 2 rakah then be it second,if you thought it was 3rd rakat than be it 3rd and complete the salat

    2) it doesnt matter again as Allah Allmighty knows your Innermost Thoughts,,your intention counts..

  3. As long as you said "Allahu Akbar" to begin, and you did your best, that is all that counts. Allah will reward you for seeking nearness to Him.

During Ramadan, you can make wudu as normal, but try not to inhale water up your nose to the extent that it wets your throat. However, if it happened by mistake, just ignore it and continue with your fast. Same thing with showering. It's better to shower before dawn, but if you inhale steam while fasting and taking a shower, there is no blame on you.

  4. first of all congratulations dear sister.  In regards to mistakes or forgetfullness during prayer, if that happens to you, it is best to perform what is called sujood as sahw at the end of your prayer.  bascially that means if you realize a mistake in your prayer, you continue the prayer as normal. You assume the lesser number (lets say if you are unsure if its the second or thrid raka you assume it is the second).  After saying the second tashahud,  you should make sujood again and then say the salam.  This is based on the following hadith: Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri, may Allaah be pleased with him, in which he said: the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "If any of you doubts during his prayer and he does not know how many [raka’aat] he has prayed, whether it is three or four, then he should discard and cast away his doubt. He is to continue upon what one is sure of [i.e. the lesser] then perform two prostrations before making tasleem. If he ends up [in reality] praying five [raka’aat], then his prayer will be an intercession for him; and if he ends up completely the [requisite] four [raka’aat] then it is targheeman for shaytaan." (targheeman: i.e., a way of vexing Satan and humiliating and debasing him, as well as rejecting him as a result of his failure to achieve his desire of disturbing the worshipper.) (Sahih Muslim)

As for rinsing the mouth during ramadan, that continues as normal.  You just make sure you spit the water out as much as possible and even if you by mistake swallow water, Allah swt knows your intention.

  5. 1. try to keep track with your fingers like 1st raka then 2nd raka and so forth.

    2. Its ok when water goes in your mouth just dont swallow it

Does the C in your name stand for Cullen??? lol

LOL thats funny because i am a huge fan of Edward Cullen

  6. Salaam,

    1) In time, this will stop happening, or happen less frequently. In the first few months, this happened to me almost 3/4 times a day. But Inshallah, in time it will pass. If you believe you are on 'so and so' rakat, ie.  I think I'm on 4th rakat, then pray as per your intention.

2)When you do wudhu, the water can go in your mouth for the sake of washing, just don't swallow it.

  7. 1. Sometimes I forget too, but you get used to it soon. Just do this. Every time you get up, after (bowing down) say in a whisper which rakaa you have completed.

    2. Even when it goes into your mouth, you should not swallow it. Just spit it out.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to email me. I'll be glad to help!
