I could not be happier, says Sporting Lisbon's Oguchi Onyewu – Portuguese Primeira Liga News
Sporting Lisbon’s Oguchi Onyewu says that he is really happy at the moment because he scored the winning goal against Rio Ave on Monday’s thrilling 3-2 encounter in Vila do Conde.
The Lions travelled to Estádio do Rio Ave expecting to clinch three points in the late kick-off. They did eventually achieve their goal, but it was not in the fashion they had expected.
Domingos Paciência’s men had to endure a nervy ninety minutes in which they surrendered a two-goal lead. The match was coming to a close, when new-signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oguchi-Onyewu-c28332 netted the winner and sent the Sporting fans into delirium.
The American defender launched himself at the corner delivery and sent a ferocious header past the Rio Ave goalkeeper to secure three vital points for his side.
Finding the back of net for the first time in his new surroundings and in such an important fixture, it is rightfully so that Onyewu is buzzing.
Speaking on the social networking site, Facebook, the centre-back could hardly contain his excitement and said that he was back to his best.
"They say I'm back, I agree, it takes me only my time with all these things, I still believe it, I had someone to tell me that I fell, ooh I needed it, and want to see me again when I left?" he said.
Onyewu also commented on the win, saying that his side deserved the result and that he was really thankful for the support he had received from the fans after scoring his first goal for the Lisbon outfit.
"Great victory for Sporting. Could not be more pleased to have managed to score my first goal. Thank you all for continuing to support! Sporting Force!” the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 man quoted as saying.
With their woeful opening form behind them, Sporting Lisbon can now look forward to proving their title credentials and challenge FC Porto’s crown.
However, for that they will have to reach the level of the champions and their rivals, Benfica, who have had a strangle hold on the Primeira Liga in recent times.
