I couldn't believe he claimed this was racist?

When I was told about this story I couldn't believe it. A White Dallas commissioner used the term black hole for lost paperwork and a Black Judge interrupted him and said White Hole... He then requested an apology for the insensitive comment being made in this day and age. The commissioner refused to apologize for using a sceintific term to describe lost paperwork. I couldn't help but laugh at how far the pc world has gone... What is it an African American Hole? Did my husband leave the house today in an African American colored shirt?

So what do you think; do you agree with the commissioner or the judge and why?

  1. lol @ angry answerers.

  2. God I hope that judge is removed from the bench somehow.

  3. its over the top.  guy was talking about the scientific term.  This group should have the two guys removed from their jobs.

  4. On the surface, I agree it's all gotten to the level of absurdity however - it also seems to me that black is almost always associated with something negative:  black listed, black hole, black art, black ball, black bile, black death, black money, black sheep, black water, et al.

  5. kessie: "A black hole is a region of space in which the gravitational field is so powerful that nothing, not even light, can escape its pull after having fallen past its event horizon.

The term "Black Hole" comes from the fact that, at a certain point, even electromagnetic radiation (e.g. visible light) is unable to break away from the attraction of these massive objects. This renders the hole's interior invisible or, rather, black like the appearance of space itself."

Please remember that the word 'black' did not always refer to a person's ethnicity.

  6. It is a sad when a person can become a judge but yet still have no idea about what a black hole is!

  7. There is no shortage of stupid people in the world, particularly in government.

  8. Wow. I totally agree, this is crazy! People need to lighten up and not claim every thing as racist.

  9. PC gone awry...Pretty soon the word black regardless how it's used..especially in a negative term will be deemed a racial slur and could end up on the "black" list of bad words to use.(pun intended)

  10. I'm as in favour of political correctness as anyone, but it wasn't necessary here. The scientific term is BLACK hole.

  11. True or not it isn't so far fetched as to be unbelievable. Too many people walk around with chips on their shoulder looking for opportunity to be insulted so they can claim a victim status. Race, religion, s*x, orientation, etc... People cling to the belief that the world is against them so as to excuse their failures in life. No group is immune from it but individuals are quite capable of looking past the stigma and being successful and productive. Personally I feel this is a far left trait, always look to blame rather accept responsibility.

  12. Funny!

Actually I wonder why Americans so often use a prefix like African American, Irish American or Native American.  I haven't noticed people doing that in other countries.

Are you not all genuine Americans?

  13. A stupid judge, thats a first.

  14. Yeah , well, apparently the black judge doesn't watch the Discovery Channel.

  15. A lot of these stories float around and most of them arent true....just funny and made up by ppl wanting to tell jokes.

Edit: I dont check links..they got viruses.

  16. It is ridiculous.  Some people are just looking for reasons to get up set about.  I am not peeved that 90% of my students don't like white milk but will drink chocolate and strawberry.

  17. It's completely absurd.   I guess an insult can be found anywhere if one looks hard enough, but that goes for people in general.

  18. I find it funny that you are preaching for people to "lighten up" but then attack hitchhiker for not having virus protection...

    don't worry, be happy!

edit: then what is your point exactly? that people shouldn't be too PC, but it is okay for people to be hypersensitive and read into things... the two go hand in hand.

Sorry you are upset I pointed out a bit of hypocrisy, but my reading comprehension is just fine.

Also, you are making the assumption that hitchhiker is only answering this to get two points, I found his comment to lend itself toward the sentiment of not believing everything we read, and less about calling you out for posting something you knew was incorrect.

I just think you need to lighten up a tad... just my opinion, without too much regard for being PC.

edit: oh... thank you for informing me that this had nothing to do with political correctness and everything to do with the actually phenomenon of a black hole... glad I understand now that the correlation between "black" had nothing to do with a person taking things out of context, being hypersensitive, or playing into PC hype.

edit... again: are my quotations around black okay and up to your reading standards?

edit: this is fine if you want to call me out for improper use of quotations... I just think it’s petty at this point as my take WAS that you feel being overly PC is wrong.

While we are on the topic of wasting time... I feel you wasted mine with curtailing a point... I still don’t know what you are upset about, the black holes? Your point was obviously not that society needs to lighten up as a whole, this you have made explicitly clear to me.

edit: will it make you happy if I call you superior, since you have yourself completely convinced of this anyway. BTW I wasn’t pointing the obvious out for hitchhiker’s sake, I just find it annoying and detrimental to any growth when people don’t practice what they preach... but after all I am a sub being in your magnificent presence... all hail.

to be honest I thought I would have allot more than 1 td for bickering with you like this…

    dont worry, be happy!
