I couldnt get into my computer because i forgot the password for the account. how do i get my password back?

I was looking in my storage and found my old computer and i decided to give it to my friend but once we got it all hooked up we found out that i had a password there from about 3 years ago and now i need to get the password back or i need to restart my computer to get everything back.

boot up your computer and hit f8, go into safe mode, and you can get into the admin account without a password. That is if your using Windows XP.

First start the computer in safe mode; this is done by tapping F8 or F12 before the operating system boots and selecting "Safe Mode" from the boot menu. Log in as Administrator; you can press Ctrl +Alt + del twice at the log on screen and type Administrator in the username field, leave the password field blank. After that access the user accounts in the control panel and change any password you like.

NOTE: this deletes all private data protected by the password.
