One night recently I relised I had to turn a corner late so I cornered a bit fast while raining and the car lost control and smashed into a tree head on, properly hit it at 40km/hr, it was during late night and no one was around, the car was still driveable and it happened near my home so I drove it back to my garage and parked it back.

I'm wondering will the insurance pay for the damage, there was no one else involved, I'm wondering what should I do, I have comprehensive insurance, can I call them and will they pay? What will insurance company do after I call them? How will they investigate? I'm in Sydney, NSW, Australia.

  1. The answer may vary by person. It would be a good idea to hear some of them and try to choose the best one. Here is a good one.http://car-insurance.bestips.info/car-in...

  2. You have to have a good insurance company.

  3. in england no prob .but out there who knows

  4. Your insurance company will probably cover it, I can't see why it would be an issue. Obviously you're at fault so all that means is that you will have to use your insurance and pay the excess (where as if someone else hit you their insurance would cover your repairs). You call your insurance company to lodge a claim, most of them just do it over the phone and you can pay your excess by credit card. Then they give you a claim number. Depending on which insurance company you're with you may have to take the car to wherever they tell you to for assessment. It's not an "investigation" into the cause of the crash, all they're doing is assessing the damage and working out if they're better off repairing it or writing it off. I had an accident and there weren't any witnesses and the police weren't called, there was no investigation. I just rang up, lodged the claim, paid my excess and took my car to the repairer of my choice where the insurance company came out to assess it. Then they repaired it. Simple.

  5. In the USA and I assume Australia too that would be covered under your collision insurance not comprehensive.  It would be unusual to have comprehensive and not collision coverage though.  The fact that you "ran" is not a good thing but if you have collision coverage I would report it to your insurance co ASAP

  6. NO. That accident requires that you have collision coverage. Comp covers fire, theft, and vandalism.
