I created a group but no one can find it and it doesnt come up in the search?

i created a group so that we can all get together to for a LL in our city, no one can get to it. do they have to have a yahoo id? be signed in?? is it possible for anyone to join without a yahoo id

new groups aren't listed right away. it can take a few hours to a few days-

depends also if you made it a closed group or adult.

There are a couple different reasons why your Group might not show up in a search.  For one, it depends whether or not you chose to make it listed, because only listed Groups will appear in Group searches.  To check whether your Group is listed, log in to your Group's web site.  Then click on Management on the left-hand side of the page.  Then click Description & Appearance under Group Settings.  Then click the Edit link next to Description.  Near the bottom of the resulting page will be a Listing Type choice.  If the default setting here is not Listed In Yahoo Groups Directory, and you want it to be, then change the selection here.  If you make any changes on this page, don't forget to click the Save Changes button when you're done.  Finally, even if your Group is listed, it won't show up in search results if it's too new, because it takes the search engine a couple days (sometimes up to a week) to catch up to new Groups or changes to a Group's settings.

"do they have to have a yahoo id? be signed in??"  Yes and no.  There are two ways to join a Group.  If a person just wants to have access to the Group's messages in their e-mail, then they can send a blank e-mail to [e-mail] (replacing GroupName with the actual name of the Group, of course).  But if they join this way, they can't log in to your Group's web site, which means they won't be able to see when you or any other member adds things to the various sections of your Group's web site (Files, Photos, Links, Calendar, Database).  So the better way to join is on the Group web site.  And to join this way, they do need a Yahoo ID.  (Note that anyone can get a Yahoo ID for free by going to http://groups.yahoo.com/ , then clicking the small Sign Up link near the top-middle of the page, then following the directions on the resulting page.)  Once they have a Yahoo ID and are logged in to it on the web, they can go to your Group's home page, then click the Join This Group button on the right-hand side of the page.  After they choose their settings for your Group on the resulting page, then click the Join button towards the lowerr-right-hand corner of the page, they will be full-fledged members of your Group.

If you know the e-mail address or Yahoo ID of someone who wants to join your Group, you can help them find your Group on the web by sending them an invitation (which will have a link to your Group's web site in it).  To do this, go to your Group's web site while logged in.  Then click the Invite link on the left-hand side of the page.  Then enter their e-mail address or Yahoo ID in the large box.  Don't forget to click the Submit Invite button (towards the lower-right-hand corner) when you're done.
