Question:

I created fake tax returns to buy a house and now I have to fix it?

My husband and I were desperate to buy a home. We have good jobs now, but have not in the past two years. I created fake tax returns and W-2's to show that we made over $100,000 combined for the past two years. Now we are about to close and the underwriter said that they don't match what they pulled from the IRS.

I know what I did was wrong. Really wrong, but now I need to fix it so we can close by Friday.

If we are honest about what we made we won't get approved. Would it be possible for me to go get my taxes ammended with the fake W-2's and have the CPA call the underwriter and explain that there was just an error in the previous returns.

Someone please help. I know I've gotten myself in a stupid mess, but we really have to get our children out of the ghetto apartment complex.

Thanks,

  1. I believe it is a criminal offense to file a false form to obtain a loan.

It would probably be best to tell the loan officer about the mistake and the improved income situation.

  2. Tyler Durden: The things you own end up owning you.

  3. You lied, you got caught.  Now there's no good way out.  Sorry.

  4. What you did is fraud and what you are suggesting will only compound the problem.  Do you really want problems with the IRS as well?

Lying is never the solution to anything.  The best you can hope for is that, if you are honest, they don't prosecute you for this fraud.

    Good luck to you.
