I dropped my health insurance provided by my employer to save money. Now that I am covered by his, the coverage is not as good. Is there any benefit to being covered by 2 insurances? What are the liabilities and the advantages?

  1. I am covered by my ins at work and husbands at his work.  The only problem is the drug coverage.  The drug store only takes one insurance, not both, for paying for drugs.

I like the double coverage.  Last year I only had my insurance and was diagnosed with cancer!!  My out of pocket was over two thousand dollars and then all the copays...it was awful..

It is worth the two hundred dollars a month to be on his insurance now, and mine is only thirty every month at work.

  2. If you had kept both coverages, your insurance would have been 'primary' and his 'secondary', meaning that his insurance would probably have picked up whatever your primary insurance did not cover.

However, depending on how much you are saving by being covered under one policy, the extra deductibles and payouts on your part may well balance out.
