I currently have a US driver license. What is the optimum way to convert that to an Indian license in Chennai?

I have recently moved to Chennai from the US. I used to drive in the US, and have driven a bit here over the past few years. So I am comfortable driving here in India.

The RTO in chennai are asses. To convert to a chennai drivers licence they want you to surrender the US licence after taking the written test.

  The process in Bangalore is friendlier (i got my indian licence in Bangalore after moving from US) and you have to fill out a few forms furnish address proof and attach a copy of your US drivers licence with a complete indian drivers licence fee and you will get a Karnataka Drivers licence in the mail.  You can keep you US drivers licence as well.

If Bangalore is not an option contact AASI in mount road and ask them for help.
