  1. You need a 3 iron, putter, and sand wedge.

  2. Good players use hybrids too. More and more of the pro's are carrying them. Even Mickelson carries a hybrid depending on the course. A hybrid 3 is definitely an option for you, no matter what your skill level. It's great from the fairway, out of the rough, off the tee, even for bump & runs from the fringe. Golf Digest had a good article this month by Faldo on 7 shots with a hybrid. Anyways, enough of that soapbox.

The short game is where the scoring is usually done so wedges are a good idea. I carry 4 - 48, 52, 56 & 60 degree. It gives you a lot more options around the green on how to play a shot.

  3. That adds up to 11, I'll assume you forgot to mention your putter so that makes 12.  Add a lob or approach wedge (loft is between your PW/SW.  Get rid of the 4 iron and add two hybrids, a 19 degree and a 23 degree.

  4. You will need all the irons from No.3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW and SW and a putter. You may want to add a hybrid 7 or 9 wood in your golf bag, making sure you'll have a maximum of 14 clubs in your golf bag.

  5. I carry a Driver, 3 wood, lob/sand/pitch wedges, 9 thru 5 irons, 3 & 4 hybrid and a putter. that works for me

  6. You will definitely need a putter.  I would suggest a Lob Wedge or more lofted Wedge to go with you SW.  Maybe a 60 degree.  And for your final club I would suggest a 3Hybrid.  The Idea behind the hybrid is that it is much easier to hit than a long iron.  Long irons can be very difficult to hit without a lot of practice because there is little margin for error.  The hybrid has more mass and a lower center of gravity which promotes a higher ball flight with less effort.  Maybe that can get you started.

  7. None of the answers so far given are close to correct.

What you need to do is analye your average distances with your current clubs and look and see where the yardage gaps are, in your current set.

If you are a good player and strike the ball well.. and have great distance.. you may have a considerable gap in between that 5 wood and 4 iron.

If you strike the ball well.. but don't possess alot of distance, that gap may be fine.  It really depends on YOU, the player, and what gaps you have in your game.

You have to determine those gaps, and then analyze what clubs would fit in appropriately.  Do not just pay attention to what is labeled on the club, "ie. 7 wood, 3 hybrid, etc.."  You need to look at the loft of the club as well.  For instance 3 hybrids vary from 18 degrees to 21 degress; varying from each manufacturer.  I see alot of 4 hybrids vary from 21 degrees to 24 degrees.  Also, if its a lighter headweighted hybrid, its going to be longer, than its iron counterpart.  If its a true hybrid-iron, with a similiar head weight that its iron counterpart is, then it is possibly going to be shafted with the appropriate length intervals within the iron set.

  8. First if your at least have decent DO NOT BUY HYBRIDS. That is, if your a good enough player. If not than yes. You need to go out and purchase a 3-iron and if your really good a 2-iron. I replaced my 5 wood with a 2-iron. Yes its harder to hit but when you find that sweet spot the accuracy is amazing. Now normally a sand wedge is 56 degrees. So the like phil mickelson i carry 4 wedges. You should too, a pitching wedge, a 52 degree, a sand wedge, than a 60 degree. But remember only 14 clubs allowed in your bag.

  9. I absolutely love my 7 wood...yup, a 7 wood......and I use a Driving Iron instead of my driver.

So a set is:  Irons=  3,4,5,6,7,8,9 a good PW a good Sand Wedge

Woods= 1(driver) 3,5,7 and a confortable putter, I still use my old Ping Anser
