I decide it's time to buy a house we cant afford this area.

I want to stay close to the city.

I was pre-afford for 190k.

Where is a good suburb to raise kids? I have a son that's going into the 5th grade. So I need to consider school's eespecially High School's.

I was thinking west of Chicago maybe Hanover Park.

  1. You could buy a condo in Norridge for that amount.  It would be a good starter home.  If you really want a house, you'll need to look further west or northwest but then you lose the amenities of public transportation and city life.  Go online to Baird Warner.com and do a search of single family homes or Condo's in your price range.

  2. Plainfield is real nice and its close to i55

  3. New Lenox, Il. They have great train service to Chicago and its easy to get there(train station) an dhe schools are great.

  4. Stay in Norridge or  move to Park Ridge. Buy an apartment if that's what you can afford. Send your kid to a Maine South when the time comes. That's where I graduated 2 years ago. If he goes there, he'll turn out better than most (especially better than any Chicago high school kid). Colleges know Maine South's reputation.

I think it's better to have an apartment in a good town and a good school system than to move to a worse off neighborhood and own a house.
