Started out weighing 190 lbs, I am 5'8 and 27 yo.

Now I am staying steading at 182lbs, but taking in maybe 50 carbs or less a day.

If I cut back to less than 30 will I see results again in weight loss?

I know everyone says lo carb is not good, but I am PCOS and insulin resitant.

I worked out hard for 2 months with out the scale ever moving and this is the only thing that has worked. So please don't suggest not using lo carb, because it is actually recommended for PCOS.

  1. Hey.  I am a big fan of low-carb.  I wouldn't sweat dropping to 30 from 50 carbs.  Probably won't see much of a change.  Just push for consistency in between 50-100 carbs/day.  I trained a guy with diabetes and and he saw his need for insulin drop and way fewer hypos once he dropped his carb intake and got on a regular workout regimen.  I have a blog at http://theblogformen.com  where i have some info on diet and nutrition, and some work-out info.  I am putting up a post tomorrow (8/22) which shows a study that was just in the New England Journal of Medicine (don't worry i summed it up and removed the "science language").  The study shows how effective low carb is vs. low fat and Mediterranean diets.  To keep shedding the pounds you need to add in some exercise and you should keep seeing the weight fall off.

  2. Hi there,

Firstly, you need to be careful with weight loss. Rapid weight loss really isn't healthy for you and if you are planning on losing weight for an event, then you need to plan in advance. Typicaly guidelines are 2 to 3 pounds weight loss a week is healthy. More than that and you do run a risk of damaging yourself.

Losing weight is, in itself, relatively easy. You need to

    1) Consume Less Calories

    2) Burn More Calories

What is difficult is the motivation for weight loss.

Most people struggle to lose weight because they do not have the motivation and because they give in to all the temptation around.

I personally have found that hypnosis is an excellent way to deal with weight loss motivation as it works with the subconscious mind and really helps you get motivated. A good hypnotist can also do things like stop you craving chocolate and sweet things and help you be more motivated with exercise and the like.

I've also found that as the excess weight starts to drop off I am feeling much more self confident and better about myself.

Hope that helps, but please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

  3. A low carb diet is recommended for anyone with diabetes as well as those with PCOS and other conditions. Low carb is also one of the ways to lose weight along with exercise. However you need carbs for energy. Try to adjust your diet to 3 small meals a day with 3 small snacks in between. Focus on veggies as your "snacks" carrot sticks and celery and other low to zero carb options like string cheese. Stay away from pastas, breads and potatoes. For bread, I recommend Sara Lee 45 Calorie delightful, it has only 9g carbs per slice I have not found any bread that is lower in carbs than this and it tastes yummy. You are on the right track!
