Can anyone help me with that?

It is going to be something very small.

We need to find a hotel of course with a restaurant and a church.

Finding the church is the most difficult thing because we can't go there prior to the wedding...

  1. I agree with Evangelos, as M.Athos is not the right place for a ceremony, try Meteora, which is very well known (abroad too!). People from France, Italy and Lithouania, that I know, wanted to visit this place.

  2. Unfortunately, the Athos peninsula south of Ouranoupolis, a small town on the North-West of it, which is on the border is forbidden grounds for women. That is a long standing religious tradition for many centuries since it is considered the sole property of Our Lady Panagia and is Her gardens. The Christian Orthodox believers would like it to stay like that.

Therefore, a wedding in the Athos is out of the question.

The next best thing to do is to have that wedding on either  Ouranoupolis or Amouliani, a close by small island.

I provided some links for you to look up and decide where to do it.

You can prearrange with the hotel you will chose, to make the necessary arrangements for the wedding.

  3. Everyone else is correct - NOTHING feminine is allowed on Mount Athos!  No women, no sows, no mares, etc.  It has been this way for thousands of years.

  4. I was on the island of Poros, about a hour ride by dolphin from Athens last year and the hotel was holding the reception for a wedding.  The couple were from England.

They were married in a small church sitting out on a very small island all by itself...they rode boats out to it.  The Saga Hotel had the roof top all decorated which looks out over the water and lights of the town and port.  It was beautiful.  They are set up to handle 100 guest for that and help with arrangements about getting to church etc.

  5. Agion oros (mt .athos) does not make weddings nor accepts women. .. but who cares anyaway !

You can disguise your self to look like a man though

  6. You can't have a wedding ceremony on Athos Mountain. There are only monasteries there.

  7. For the last more than 1000 years, no female (human, dog, whatever) has set foot in Athos. It is forbiden & the place even has a special status, not only according to the Greek Law, but according to the European as well (it is not part of the Maastricht Treaty).

So, you can not arrange for your wedding there. Try maybe Meteora (very spectacular scenery too).

  8. The only thing I know about Mount Athos is that there is a Monastery on the top which is closed to all female species.  I am sure that you will get more answers with the right information.  Best of luck I hope you have a lovely time.
