I downloaded a patch (1.74) for Civilization 4, but the download failed and deleted a .dll file. The program wouldn't start, so I removed it and tried to reinstall. Now the program insists that I still have a version of Civ 4 on my computer. How can I find the the files that are hidden or changes that have been made to the registry? Are there any programs that will help?

  1. did you uninstall it or just delete the file? uninstalling usually gets rid of everything, but deleting tends to leave many related files that can make it tough to reinstall.

try doing a search for all files containing "civilization4" in the filename. delete whatever files come up, as well as other files in the same folder.

  2. you could restore your computer to an earlier time and reinstall the program

  3. I dont know about it if it is a mac, but if it is windows, you can click my computer, click local disk (the one that says C:) go to program files, and find a folder that is for that program (it could say civilization 4, or it could say the company that makes it) make sure the folder doesnt have any other program files in it, then delete it

  4. Go into

    My computer>

    Hard Drive (C)>

    Program Files>

    Civilization 4>

Delete the CIV 4 file. That will get rid of everything that has to do with that program
