I deserve massive money: Nicklas Bendtner
The Danish striker of Arsenal, Nicklas Bendtner has claimed that he deserves to earn the massive £52,000-a-week wage for showing extraordinary commitment to the game.
The Big Dane has even been awarded with a number 52 shirt to match his weekly wage. However, the 23-year-old striker insisted that he had to work hard in order to reach this high point in life.
He said, “I would lie if I said I didn't enjoy the money I earn in football. We spend an incredible amount of time, energy and focus on our career because when we are not training or playing we still have to live for football. It is always fair to ask whether
players are worth the incredible amounts of money. We must be worth our salaries because that is how the mechanisms of society works, isn't it?
As long as I work as hard as I can then I believe I'm worth what is coming my way. I pay a big price with my body, my time and with never being able to have privacy when I am out. I don't complain about that. It's a part of being a professional footballer
but it's definitely a price to pay.”
Bendtner, who was part of Denmark’s World Cup 2010 squad, expressed his love for the game and acknowledged that he never cared about being famous or making money.
Bendtner praised the quality of English national team and claimed that the Three Lions have a squad which has every attribute to perform in big competitions but are unfortunate not to win any trophy since the 1966 World Cup.
The Big Dane labelled Wednesday’s fixture against England as a very special match and insisted that the Danish fans would get to see the very best of England.
Despite claiming England as his second home country, the Gunners’ striker insisted that he would go for a win and said that it would be an honour for him to triumph against Fabio Capello’s men.
Moreover, Nicklas Bendtner has fallen down the pecking order at Emirates behind an in-form Robin Van Persie and Marouane Chamakh and has expressed frustration over the lack of playing opportunities.
Bendtner has only started one Premier League match in the on-going 2010-11 season so far and said that he would like to have more playing opportunities for the Gunners.
